Bio: Chris Kohl

As Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mr. Kohl is responsible for aligning Vertex’s technology and systems investments to contribute to Vertex’s delivery of value to its customers. Through engagement with peer executives and business leaders across the company, IT drives business success through the appropriate application of technology, systems, and process improvements. Mr. Kohl is credited with transforming IT from back-office functions to strategic contributor during his tenure at Vertex. Mr. Kohl also provides executive leadership to Vertex’s Real Estate and Facilities Management functions. Mr. Kohl is a standing member of Vertex’s Internal Strategy Team which formulates strategic thinking, sets strategic plans, and manages investment in Vertex’s portfolio of owned assets, contracted services, and human resources across all functional disciplines to drive corporate success.
 
Beyond the CIO role, Mr. Kohl served as one of the lead architects and key communicators for Vertex’s organization redesign which is transforming the way Vertex strategically plans, operationally executes, and meaningfully engages its rich pool of talent against the company’s Vision Values and Mission, ultimately delivering sustainable value to shareholders and customers. Mr. Kohl is currently leading an enterprise-wide process to envision and deliver the headquarters, facilities, and spaces that Vertex will need, on both domestic and global levels, to execute its business functions, attract and retain talent, and engage and support its partners and customers.
 
Mr. Kohl has a deep experience base in Information Technology, having held positions of increasing responsibility in multiple companies and through a successful tenure as an independent consultant working with technology, healthcare and financial services organizations on strategic IT realignments.
 
Mr. Kohl is a member of the CIO Executive Council where he serves on the Board of Advisors, is active in the peer network of CIOs, and serves as a mentor in the Council’s Pathways program, helping aspiring IT leaders on their journey toward future CIO and associated leadership roles through structured mentoring, one-on-one engagements, and annual Master Class sessions. Mr. Kohl also serves on the CIO Board of TechImpact (formerly NPower PA), a non-profit IT consultancy and development organization. At TechImpact, Mr. Kohl mentors students in the ITWorks training program, a fully underwritten program for at-risk post-high school youth seeking careers in IT.
 
Mr. Kohl holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Villanova University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Drexel University.
